Safety tips: How to keep pets safe from Halloween hazards
Photo by DirtBikeDBA (Mike) Foter CC BY-NC-ND |
The neighborhood is getting spookier as Halloween crawls closer and closer. Horrific decorations adorn festive homes while they search for the best costume continues. Little do pet parents know the candy and décor of Halloween could end up being dangerous for household pets.
Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. (VPI) released its Top Halloween PetDangers and Safety Tips on Oct. 15 to help educate pet parents about how this scary holiday could negatively affect their pet. VPI reports that in the United States alone consumers spend $7 billion on Halloween candy, decorations, and costumes. Unfortunately having all of these seemingly benign holiday objects in the home means that consumers could be exposing their pets to toxic or hazardous things.

While some parents may be excited to send their kids back to school canine companions may not be so willing to lose the company. When summer's spent frolicking together are suddenly over and the kids start riding the bus again some dogs begin to suffer from a common ailment among pets in America.
In a September 3rd report by Sue Manning of The Associated Press, Dr. Nick Dodman of Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts states that nearly 20 per cent of the United States’ 80 million dogs suffer from separation anxiety.
It is something familiar to the many pet parents with full time jobs. However after months of companionship with the kids on summer break dogs get into a routine that is hard to break. This stress and anxiety can lead to destruction and bad behavior.

Pet food recall: August 2014
Recall expanded: PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition Limited Recall Due to Metal Fragments
Contact:
Consumer:
1-800-305-5206
Press release - August 31, 2014 - At PEDIGREE®, we care about all dogs and their safety and well-being is extremely important to us, and to our mission – to make a Better World for Pets. For that reason, we have announced the extension of a previous voluntary recall of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food products due to the possible presence of foreign material. The voluntary recall still affects 22 bags shipped to Dollar General across four U.S. states, but it now is being expanded to 55-pound bags of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food products sold in Sam's Club in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
This recall is being expanded to Sam's Club in the U.S. because some of the affected production lot was originally said to be held in inventory but was instead released to consumers, which has necessitated the expansion of the recall. We are confident no other packages or retailers are affected by this recall.
