Buyer Beware: The Oodie customer's complaints go unanswered as many ask "Is The Oodie a scam?"
Well folks, this isn't my regular content but since it's right before the holiday season and many folks are struggling to afford gifts, I feel obligated to share my recent experience ordering from The Oodie. My experience is not an isolated incident, I'm one of many who have been utterly disappointed by The Oodie and left questioning: Is the Oodie a scam?
Answer is: I can't say for sure, but I and many others sure do feel scammed by them. My honest review would be do not buy from them! Especially not right now.
The Oodie makes wearable blankets, among other soft and comfy products, that closely resemble a similar brand that starts with an 'S'. The company is based out of Australia and its parent company, Davie Clothing Pty Ltd, was recently fined $101,280 in penalties for allegedly failing to comply with a mandatory product safety standard on The Oodies designed for children. The Oodie paid the "penalties following alleged failure to put fire danger warning labels on Kids Beach Oodies." No joke. Unfortunately, I didn't do my due diligence before ordering and I'm finding this out now.
So what is happening to The Oodie customers right now? Customers who have ordered from The Oodie in the past few months are experiencing plenty of issues. The root of the problem is customers not receiving their orders. Some reported not receiving their order at all, and while most reported order delays of more than a month, despite their listed timeframe. I shared some recent negative reviews about The Oodie in a video.
The Oodie (Canada) shipping info |
When I placed my order on November 11, 2024. On November 25 I received an email informing me that my order would be delayed.
They were projecting it would be a month before the order would even be dispatched, that doesn't include shipping time which is delayed in Canada right now due to the postal strike. Because this was for Christmas and I go out of town, that doesn't work for me. So I replied to The Oodie the same day requesting the order be cancelled and refund me the $82.00 CAD I paid, as the items have not shipped. I received an auto-response that they would reply in 4 business days.
Fast forward to today, December 5, and The Oodie still hasn't replied to my email. As we edged closer and then passed 'business day 4' of the timeline they provided me I was concerned they wouldn't respond. I filled out the Canada-specific contact form on their website. I sent another email. And the auto-response timeframe became longer and longer. 6 business days, 8 business days. I commented on their Facebook posts and was getting responses at first, but the 'help' they said I'd receive never came.
But as I did this I noticed something fishy...
The Oodie's Facebook (and Instagram) posts show a large volume of comments, but if you click to expand and read the comments there are far fewer showing. That is an indication that:
- They could be filtering comments
- They could be deleting comments
- They could be blocking customers who comment with complaints
While I did see a lot of customers complaining about their orders and the lack of response from The Oodie customer service, especially on TikTik where fewer comments were 'missing', most of the comments were low-value positive comments. However, I learned a few things.
The Oodie is not delivering orders and not responding to an overwhelming amount of customers.
This is a pattern for The Oodie, based on other comments, Reddit threads, Quora questions, and negative reviews the company has received online in the past 3 years.
Late last night, after many requests to cancel my order (including directly through the PayPal app) I got an email saying my order had been shipped. I was furious! I commented on their Facebook posts asking why the order was shipped. The Oodie has left customers no choice but to comment on their social media as they won't respond any other way.
In response, The Oodie blocked me from their Facebook page.
I'm not the only one, a commenter on TikTok reported the same thing. All this time The Oodie has been failing to deliver orders and failing to respond to refund requests, do you know what they have been doing?
Continuing to post sponsored ads and promotional posts on their social media to push sales of their products.
All of this leads me to suspect The Oodie is scamming its customers right now. It's important to remember just because a company is a 'legitimate business' doesn't mean it can't scam its customers (or its employees). Just because a business had a good reputation in the past doesn't mean that can't change. And just because you received an order with no issues doesn't mean there isn't a huge issue with orders from The Oodie right now.
I disputed the charge, reporting the transaction as fraud to PayPal, and reported The Oodie to the Better Business Bureau and recommend those with similar issues do the same.
UPDATE: As I am writing this The Oodie finally replied, DENYING my refund. The response is a joke, telling me they can't refund the order after 90 minutes because it was processed when the only reason I requested my order be cancelled was because the items were delayed a month!
This 90-minute return policy, especially if they want to stick to that on a delayed order, SCREAMS SCAM!
Check out the comment section of The Oodie on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, and let me know what you think of all this.
Is The Oodie ripping off their customers right before the holidays? Sure seems like it! Check out my reply to The Oodie below. Enjoy!
