If you have been following the story of the water protectors at Standing Rock, then many of you are probably already aware of the lack of mainstream media coverage on the front lines of the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. The water protectors have suffered abuse, freezing cold temperatures and have faced off with militarized police to protect their treaty lands, clean water and to block a decision that will have a huge impact on climate change. Their voices need to be heard, and their fight is real.


 Director and documentary film-maker Josh Fox, well known for his documentary series GasLand and for his activism on the front lines of the anti-fracking movement, is giving the indigenous people of Standing Rock the media coverage they deserve. His newest film documents the truth about what has been happening at Standing Rock for the past year. AWAKE, A Dream from Standing Rock is his latest film that will be premiering tomorrow on Earth Day at the Tribeca Film Festival. This film is as grass roots as the movement itself. AWAKE is not backed by any large network like HBO, as some of Fox's previous films have been. Indigenous people are the stewards of the Earth. These original people have a connection to nature that we all can learn from. They were some of the first people to warm us about pollution and climate change, long before the science was settled.
