Survey shows women prefer Valentine's kisses from pets over kisses from partner

Who are you kissing this Valentine’s Day? Petplan pet insurance thinks they know exactly who you will be more likely to kiss on the sweetest of all holidays and it’s not your significant other.

According to a recent survey conducted by Petplan pet insurance 57% of pet parents prefer Valentine’s Day kisses from their furry family members over a kiss from their partner. It may seem like a lot but these numbers are down from last year’s survey that concluded 62% of people prefer doggy or kitty kisses over kisses from their two-legged lover. The findings of the survey were released in a press release on Feb. 2.

The survey broke down those numbers by gender and found that 60% of females preferred pet kisses. Opposite of the ladies' results 62% of males surveyed preferred kisses from their significant other. Out of more than 4, 8000 pet parents surveyed 52% of women admitted to spending more on Valentine’s Day gifts for their animals than they do on gifts for their partner.

While the women clearly favour their pets the men surveyed seem to be more loyal to their ladies during Valentine's festivities. 70% of the males surveyed spend more on their ladies than they do on their pets.

“Our pets love and comfort us unconditionally, so it’s unsurprising that we should feel that in return, especially on Valentine’s Day,” Natasha Ashton, co-founder and co-CEO of Petplan said in a press release. “A gift is just a small token of something that’s really quite difficult to put into words and even more difficult for our pets to understand.”

Will you be purchasing a gift for your pet this Valentine’s Day? Tell me about it in the comments!
